The aim of the project was to create a desirable place to live that balances usable private space with high quality public space. Located amid the serene landscape of Sultanpur, close to the Bird Sanctuary the site affords several good features including fertile land. The Farmhouse was planned as a weekend or occasional retreat and retirement home for client who lives with his wife in Gurgaon. However his extended family of two daughters and their children visit the couple frequently and they like to undertake outdoor activities together. Keeping this in mind a small house was designed in the southern part of the north facing plot. The Vaastu friendly house was designed with four bedrooms, kitchen/dining, media room or lounge and living areas placed around a central open to sky courtyard. The expanse of land around the house was designed as a set of gardens to accommodate the outdoor activities and various interests of the family. The landscape features in the forecourt were kept formal in nature with lawn and plantations designed like a formal French Garden. Included into this is a large playground for outdoor games with a bandstand to double as party space. The rear garden is more like a fruit/vegetable orchard with beds of herbs and vegetables.
